TALN - Natural Language Processing Group

In PESCaDO, UPF participates with its NLP Group, TALN Department of Information and Communication Technologies, whose research focus is multilingual information generation, summarization, paraphrasing, text mining, and corpus-based lexicology. UPF is coordinator of PESCaDO. Its R&D tasks revolve around the research and development of a multimodal and multilingual generator of user-tailored environmental information.


 


Fraunhofer IOSB

In PESCaDO, IOSB is the main system development partner. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is a leading organisation for institutes of applied research in Germany, undertaking contract research on behalf of industry, the service sector and the government. Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is actively involved in industrial consortia, seeking technical solutions to improve the competitiveness of European industry.

 


Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI)

In PESCaDO, FMI is responsible for environmental data fusion services, the expertise in environmental services, and evaluation of the developed platform. FMI has the mandate of producing reliable information on the state of the atmosphere, and its characteristics and phenomena, with the aim of promoting safety and serving various needs of the public, industry and commerce, as well as contributing to scientific ends.

 

Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS), Universität Stuttgart

In PESCaDO, VIS is responsible for the development and integration of advanced interactive visual techniques into the user interface and their close coupling to the corresponding technologies. The Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems (VIS) of the Universität of Stuttgart is internationally well known for research in the area of visualization, interactive 3D computer graphics, and human computer interaction.

 

 

Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK)

In PESCaDO, FBK is mainly involved in ontology construction and population from multilingual textual material, reasoning and decision support, and content distillation. Fondazione Bruno Kessler (formerly Istituto Trentino di Cultura) is a non-profit organization with private law status and a public interest mission. The FBK carries out research in scientific and technological areas, advanced computer science, microelectronics, physics, mathematical sciences and in human sciences.

 

 

Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) Informatics and Telematics Institute (ITI)

In PESCaDO, CERTH-ITI is primarily involved in the tasks related to environmental service discovery in the web and data provision. The most important related areas of R&D activities performed by ITI-CERTH include: semantic multimedia analysis, multimedia indexing and retrieval, search engines, knowledge structures, multimedia and the Semantic Web, reasoning and personalization, knowledge discovery for semantic-web applications, intelligent human computer interaction and social media analysis.

 

 

Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority, Finland (HSY)

In PESCaDO, HSY is responsible for the realization of the use cases and the evaluation of the PESCaDO platform. Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority (HSY) is a regional authority providing environmental services for residents and companies in the Helsinki area. HSY participates in PESCaDO with its Air Protection Unit, which takes care of air quality assessments in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and the region Uusimaa.
